Day 12: Caribou Lake - Little Caribou Lake - Armstrong

14 km, 2 portages, 0 line

Route:
Caribou Lake
P51 – west of the river opening
Little Caribou Lake
P52 – over large hill
Takeout east finger/bay @ Caribou Lake Road

Our last day was a slow moving morning.  Rained all night, had to pack the gear soaking wet – but hey, it was the last night so it really didn’t matter…

Paddled across Caribou Lake to the portage, ~500m away, just west of the opening.  Very pretty lake, lots of campsites.

Only one more portage towards the end (we think – might have been one other well marked one earlier….after 300km of paddling, things started to blur) one kilometre from Caribou Lake Road.

There is a nice take out/put in out of the east finger/bay at the south end of Little Caribou Lake.  A dirt road comes down to the water here off of Caribou Lake Road.

We carried our gear up the road, stashed it in the bush and walked the 6km into town to retrieve our vehicle (took about an hour).

Drove back out to retrieve our gear, had a quick shower in town, grabbed some lunch and made it to Thunder Bay in time for dinner and drinks later that night with friends!!!
